Community

The Advent is a warm, welcoming, and supportive community of faithful Christians.

The Christian life is one of ongoing growth and development.

At The Advent growth begins with Baptism and continues through adulthood, with opportunities for learning and study at every age.

Christian formation provides the theological grounding for liturgical practices within the walls of the Church and for disciplined conduct in the wider world. Through study of Holy Scripture and the great tradition of theological reflection as well as the particular charisms of Anglo-Catholicism, we shape our hearts and minds in conformity with the pattern established by our Lord Jesus Christ. At The Advent the timeless Gospel is preached anew, guiding us into the grace and truth of Christ and infusing our lives with the mission of advancing His kingdom.

Meeting and serving together

Small groups are an opportunity for every member to connect more deeply. These are hosted throughout the Boston metro area and are where we form deep friendships, conduct in-depth study, worship and pray, encourage each other, and serve together.

Growing together and as part of a community

The Advent supports and nurtures children and families in their Christian lives as they seek to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Opportunities exist at The Advent for families to grow together and in a community.

“Come, follow me”

Participation in the liturgy of the Mass is a rich and formative experience that instills a purposeful commitment to a life of worship. During our 9am Mass, we encourage all children to become involved as acolytes and serve at the high altar as torch bearers, crucifers, and thurifers.

Studium

During the Spring 2023 semester, Studium will meet on the first and third Saturdays of every month from January 21 to May 6 (January 21, February 4, February 18, March 4, March 18, April 1, April 15, and May 6). The typical Studium day consists of:

Study session – 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Library
Lunch – 1:00pm to 1:30pm in Moseley Hall
Study session – 1:30pm to 4:30pm in the Library
Evening Prayer (using the Book of Common Prayer) in the Chancel – 4:30pm to 5:00pm
Seminar & Refreshments – 5:00pm in Moseley Hall

Studium is a study hall that culminates in Evening Prayer. It’s a great time to get work done while enjoying fellowship with other students and young professionals around the city. By placing work within the context of liturgy and Christian community, students are given the opportunity to pursue their endeavors worshipfully. At each gathering, lunch, coffee, and refreshments are provided.

A living community

Christian formation is an ongoing component to the livelihood of our parish. The Advent urges every one of her members to attend a community group, to join us for Church School, and consider how they can grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus Christ within our community.
